Trumpets must have excellent reading skills and either a screaming high lead register, or tasty jazz improv skills, although no complaints if you can do both. A jazz vocabulary and mature sound are crucial for leading a section as well as soloing, and if you have pit and theater experience, that’s music to our ears.
