Does your commute involve sailing past glaciers? What about your office window — does it overlook the edge of the world?
For many of us at the #LimeFam, those views were our everyday life. Looking back on our time as performers at sea, we realize how extraordinarily lucky we were to pair our love for the stage with a front-row seat to some of the planet’s most incredible wonders.
This Earth Day, we’re reminiscing about the places that felt less like a port of call and more like a dream. Here are our team’s top five most memorable cruise destinations:
Skagway, Alaska
Fede, CEO and former showband drummer with Carnival Cruise Line
“We were in Skagway from spring to summer, watching the world literally transform before our very eyes. When we first arrived, the lakes were tucked under waist-high snow, but as it melted, it revealed these beautiful, endless blue lakes and mountain ranges that seem to go on for a gazillion kilometers. Standing at the peak of one mountain only to discover an endless sea of peaks ahead — it’s the most exquisite and breathtaking nature I’ve ever experienced.”
Chantelle, headliner casting and former production dancer/singer with Carnival Cruise Line
“It was my first time being in the mountains! Every direction you looked there was something new to see: glaciers, hidden lakes, and wildlife. This itinerary was what ultimately inspired our move to the Rocky Mountains after we left ships.”
Antarctica
Juli, music casting and former showband drummer with Holland America Cruise Line
“Visiting Antarctica was unforgettable. Massive glaciers and endless ice made the landscape feel unreal — raw, powerful, and completely untouched. Stepping outside the ship was intense; the cold could burn your skin if you weren’t fully covered, but it was totally worth it — one of the most incredible places I’ve ever seen.”
Miyako-Jima, Japan
Tjasa, dance casting and former production cast dancer with Dream Cruises
“What made it unforgettable was the contrast of the island itself: lush forests and greenery that almost felt like a jungle leading to the secluded Sunayama Beach. It felt nearly private, with crystal-clear water and stunning rock formations. Miyako-jima felt like a hidden paradise straight out of a dream.”
Seydisfjordur, Iceland
Lean, music casting and former pianist for Holland America Cruise Line
“A little town with beautiful mountains and lakes. It’s a beautiful nature environment and a small village with really gentle folks.”
Mazatlán, Mexico
Katherine, vocal casting and former featured singer for Royal Caribbean
“The perfect beach for swimming, a malecón for strolling, and a historic district for wandering. It’s a great place to appreciate the simple beauties of what our earth has created, and what humans have made too.”
Even though we’ve transitioned to new chapters on land, the sense of wonder we felt in these ports remains a permanent part of our story. We are profoundly grateful for our time as cruise ship performers because it gave us the chance to see the world in such a raw, untouched, and beautiful way.
What port of call was the most memorable to you? We’d love to hear from you.
Happy Earth Day from the #LimeFam 💚
